I recently had a compelling, sometimes heated but otherwise light hearted conversation with a good friend of mine about the existence of a higher force. Neither of us was willing to admit or at the least be forthcoming as to what we believed that could be. The usual concepts were thrown around; God, The Universe, Aliens, Parallel Universes. As you can see we got real deep but neither of us had any factual evidence regarding any of those concepts [Though I think my friend claimed to]. What we danced around was opinions, life experiences and the questions of why am I here? And, Is there a greater purpose?

We discussed world religions, spirituality and science. We discussed the differences and the similarities of all three and how each influences the world. What we may have thought to be at the time to be ground breaking new theory, I am sure it’s nothing that has not been discussed before. It’s amazing the effect a long car ride can have on your creativity and delusions of grandeur.

However, there was one thing that I think my friend and I consistently agreed upon; the ability to see a situation for what it is and what meaning could that event hold for your life. Whether a negative or positive event, we have an opportunity to learn and grow. We have the ability to create our own reality and we partly do that by not being concerned of the past or being anxious about the future that we cannot control [see note below for further discussion on this topic]. We create our reality by controlling one moment in time and that moment in time is NOW. Every minute of every day we have the ability to create our own reality. We can do this by our actions, our attitude and our response to events in our life. Remember, E + R = O ….the event plus the response to that event equals the outcome, not the event immediately determines the outcome.

This means that every time life throws us a challenge, good or bad, it is our response that determines the outcome. If we are to look at every event as to what deeper meaning does it hold as opposed to what we immediately see on the surface then we are allowing that event to guide us to think of outcomes that we may never have ever thought of.

Life has a funny way of working out most of the time and whether or not you think that is a result of a higher force, embrace it and live each and every day in the moment. Always look for the positive in the events in your life as there may be a hidden message that you are not seeing.
